Scarification

About

Scarification is the action of purposely damaging the skin in a manner as to cause scarring usually in a significant or artistic pattern. This can be achieved in a variety of ways but here at Holier Than Thou we use methods derived from surgical procedure. The patterns achievable in this manner are myriad and it is not an uncommon procedure. The scarring can be made more defined by the adoption of other techniques in addition to the cutting. These options include skin peels and the addition of pigments to the scarification.

Skin Peels. In order to obtain larger areas of scarring skin can be peeled away. The advantages of this are, thicker lines can be achieved for outlines patterns. The removal of internal areas of patterns such as stars circles.

Pigmentation. After much experimentation we have sourced biocompatible pigments that can be rubbed into a scar to give an organic, shaded look, very similar in technique to the first tattoos it adds a new dimension to scarification. The results are not meant to crisp and clean like a tattoo but more uneven, flowing and organic looking. Colours tested to date are Black, Red and Ochres in several shades.
